Nissa’s first Elk Sept. 1, 2001

We hunted all morning on horseback up to the top of this canyon before we finally got a chance to kill an Elk. Nissa made a perfect shot and the cow died instantly, helping us become stronger by adding meat to our freezer and confirming connections to the family members that shared the experience with us.

Here is one of twin calves that we spotted coming toward us as we rode up the canyon in search for Nissa’s first Elk. We dismounted and had the pleasure of these two fella’s coming within 10 feet of us and feeding like there was no problem. Too bad they didn’t have any Aunts with them to help Nissa fill her tag (this was before she shot her cow).
