Nissa's 2000 Deer
Here is the nice 4x5 Mule deer Nissa shot in 2000. What a beauty! (Both of them!).
From what I recall of the hunt this buck was sneaking along about 30 yards away from Nissa unbeknownst of her being there. She was unaware of his presense as well as she was having a little "quiet time" under her small pine tree stand. He made the first mistake though by snapping a twig, waking her from her daydreams. He kept easing away from her feeding and milling about. Then it was Nissa's turn for an error as she struggled to stand from under her tree. Brushing against some low hanging branches she alearted the buck that something was wrong. Bucks this size don't get this big by being stupid so he started to walk quickly away from her. Finally she got her crosshairs on him, closed her eyes, and pulled the trigger. Head dropping at the shot and bucking up his rear legs, the buck took off, hit hard. After searching for him for about 1/2 hour we finally found him piled up about 100 yards away, dead. She'd hit him a little far back, taking out his liver and the rear part of a lung. I guess that 270 Win with her 130g Ballistic tip handloads did a good job!
